Discover some of our past President’s best-loved locations to get away in this list of Favorite Presidential Vacation Destinations.
As you may know, I am three days into a seven-night Caribbean cruise. Today is a cruising day and I love them just as much as port days, sometimes, even more depending on the day’s activities. Since I’m in vacation mode and it is President’s Day today, I started thinking about favorite vacation spots of our nation’s leaders. I was even at one of them yesterday! So join me as we look at Favorite Presidential Vacation Destinations and who knows, maybe you’ll be inspired to vacation like a President!

Palm Beach
Our current president enjoys spending time at his winter white house especially this time of year. Believe it or not, Mar-a-Lago is not the first Palm Beach home to be given that moniker. That honor actually goes to the old Kennedy compound located on Millionaire’s Row. JFK and his family spent many holidays and getaways at the beachfront home.

Key West
At the tail end of the Sunshine State is Key West a popular travel destination especially in the winter. Harry Truman certainly agreed and enjoyed many winter seasons at the Little White House which is now a state historic site.

Warm Springs
President Franklin Roosevelt would escape to his Little White House in the small Georgia town south of Atlanta. It was here that he would enjoy the health benefits of the mineral springs to treat his paralysis from polio.
Martha’s Vineyard
Many travelers enjoy summer in the Vineyard. You can include the Clintons and Obamas amongst those travelers. They were often seen vacationing on the small New England island off the coast of Massachusetts during their terms.

Kennebunkport
Home to the Bush family compound, this Maine retreat was an escape for both Bush presidents during their time in office.

Bedford Springs
This area at the foot of the Alleghany Mountains in Pennsylvania is home to seven different mineral springs. It has also been a vacation destination for no less than thirteen US presidents with the first being Thomas Jefferson. The honor of most frequent-visiting President goes to James Buchanan. He was vacationing in Bedford Springs long before he was elected president and made forty annual summer visits in his lifetime. He even turned the resort into his Summer White House for five summers during his tenure as president.
Glenwood Springs
President Theodore Roosevelt would head to this Colorado destination for hunting trips. President Ford made annual ski trips an hour away in Vail during his presidency.

Yellowstone National Park
The oldest national park in the country is understandably one of the most popular, as well. There are a few presidents that have chosen to vacation here including Presidents Obama and Theodore Roosevelt.

Bois Brule River
Five US Presidents have fished this river in Northwest Wisconsin. President Coolidge, however, spent an entire summer here and even used a local high school as his Summer White House.
Santa Barbara
President Reagan enjoyed escaping to his California ranch during his presidency. He acquired it after his second term as California Governor. It would then become host to many international dignitaries during his term including Queen Elizabeth II.

We all need a little vacation time and our US Presidents definitely know how to travel. I hope you enjoyed this list of Favorite Presidential Vacation Destinations and got some ideas for a few of your future vacations.
