In my opinion, vacations are one of the greatest joys in life. They allow us to escape the daunting expectations of the everyday. You can travel to the other side of the world or just drive a couple of hours out of town and have some of the best experiences in your life. Unfortunately, there is a downside to vacations. That’s the coming home part.

Even though I’m always happy to get home and see my kitties after a vacation, I also find it quite disheartening. I’m sure you feel the same way. It’s hard coming back to reality after your little escape from it. One of the first things that come to mind is the piles of laundry I have to get to in the next day or two. Then there’s the trip to the grocery store to restock the fridge since I don’t buy very much food the week before a trip to prevent spoiling. All those responsibilities come falling back onto you. Over the years I’ve figured out a few ways to make the coming home part a little bit easier. Here are Four Post-Vacation Steps to Ease Your Way Back into Reality.
Plan Some Post Vacation Chill Time
Whether it’s a full day or a half, allot yourself some time to relax and get your bearings. If your travel plans involve an early morning arrival, use the afternoon to just relax, nap, and spend some time with your fur babies. Does your travel involve transcontinental or international flights? Consider adding an extra vacation day to readjust after crossing multiple time zones.

Have you ever heard the phrase “I need a vacation from my vacation”? Allow yourself to take some time to physically and mentally readjust after your time away. You may be less likely to feel that way if you do.
Only Worry about the Essentials
Maybe you have some phone calls to return or a small load of laundry to do before going back to work. Don’t stay up all night doing laundry, it can wait. Just wash some of the essentials to help get you through the next few days and throw the rest in the hamper. It’s great to get a few things out of the way so they’re not hanging over your head the next week, but don’t kill yourself trying to get everything done.

Take Advantage of Your Freezer and Pantry
I like to keep my pantry stocked with essentials like pasta and rice. The same thing goes with my freezer. I usually keep frozen tomato sauce, meat, and veggies in there on a regular basis. This helps with preparing some healthy meals after I get home without having to rush to the grocery store right away or blow my budget with takeout until I find a better time to get to the store. I do usually get take out my first night home, but after that, I stick with what I have on hand.

Turn In Early
The best way to come back from a vacation well-rested is to make sure you get to bed early. Turn the television off, maybe take a nice relaxing bath or shower, and get those eight hours. Get as much out of your vacation as you can and making sure that you’re well
