Spend some quality time with your special someone this autumn season with these Ten Fun Fall Dates for Couples.
The other day I was thinking about how much I was looking forward to this upcoming fall season and I realized that this year makes twenty years since I experienced my very first real fall. Growing up in South Florida didn’t give me any opportunities to experience changing leaves and other joys of the fall season.
It wasn’t until I was a college freshman living just outside of Asheville that I really got to know what makes this time of year special. Fall quickly became my favorite season and every year I try to make the most of every second of it!

When I moved back to North Carolina several years ago it was my husband’s turn to fall in love with fall. We love planning as many quality time activities as we can this time of year. Some are old and some are new but always a wonderful time.
Since the “official” beginning of fall is less than a week away, I thought I would share with you Ten Fun Fall Dates for Couples.
Train Ride
I think Amtrak hit the nail on the head when they released their “There’s Something About a Train” advertising campaign in the 1990s. Is it charm? Is it nostalgia? Or just a romantic notion but there is definitely something about a train.
I think fall is an ideal time to go for a train ride. Both travelers get to relax and enjoy their beautiful surroundings.
There are many train companies that specialize in tourism. Here in North Carolina, The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad offers a variety of routes through the Carolina Mountains on steam and diesel trains.

Of course, you could also just hop aboard an Amtrak train and visit a nearby town. One of the things I envy about those who live in the Northeast is their access to an incredible train system. There’s quite a variety of day
Do a quick google search and check out what you have for nearby options. Take a day and see the sights, enjoy a meal, and do some shopping in a nearby town that you would usually just drive by!
Visit a Winery, Brewery, or Distillery
This is really a year-round activity for me but I find that these businesses, wineries,

Hiking
In my opinion, hiking is best enjoyed in the fall. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy it during the other seasons, but I’ve enjoyed some of the most picturesque sites in the fall when the leaves are turning. The cooler temps also make it that much more enjoyable.

Although I prefer hiking off the Blue Ridge Parkway, there are also some great hiking options right here in the Triangle. The closest, the American Tobacco Trail, is just down the street from us. Google hiking trails to find the closest options for you!
Shop for Fall Décor and Decorate your Home
Make the fall decorating a couple activity. You usually decorate for Christmas together, so why not fall? If you’re low on décor take a shopping trip together. Make sure to include some type of treat in the activity like coffee, ice cream, or even lunch.

State Fair or Fall Festival
Here in North Carolina, the state fair is always in October. It’s a great way to get out of the house and have some fun together. You can’t go wrong with live music, crafts, rides, and of course, delicious fair food!

If your local fair isn’t during the fall season, check and see what type of festivals are going on near you this season. I’m sure there are some pretty fun ones you can find!
Visit a Local Farm or Orchard
Many local farms and orchards tend to have special events this time of year. Some farms will have pumpkin patches and hayrides while orchards will have apple picking and freshly pressed apple cider. It’s a fun way to spend the day and

Carve or Decorate Pumpkins
This is a great fall activity for a rainy day! Enjoy each other’s company while creatively decorating or carving pumpkins.

Make Caramel Apples
This is another activity that’s perfect for a rainy day. You could even combine it with your pumpkin carving! Make the apples first and then by the time you’re done with your pumpkins you’ll have a tasty treat waiting for you!

Watch a Football Game
It’s not fall without a little football. If you got it in your budget, go to an actual game! Derek and I will sometimes head to a sports bar and watch a game. If we stay at home then we’ll pick up some beer and make some delicious football-watching food like nachos or wings. And yes, make the food together!

Weekend Getaway
Another favorite year-round activity of mine! I honestly can’t think of a better way to celebrate a new season than a little getaway. Can you? Head to the mountains and enjoy some foliage. Better yet, spend some time in a coastal town without the crowds and enjoy their restaurants, sites, and shops!

I hope this list of Ten Fun Fall Dates for Couples will give you some ideas on how to spend this cozy season with your special someone!
