The Best of August 2019 includes a night at the ballpark, a date at the arcade, and trips to Kentucky and the Carolina coast!
At the end of every month, I like to do a “Best of” post. I like to share things that happened that won’t cover a whole post. Maybe a new restaurant opening or a book I recently read. I sometimes will share a new Netflix series or movie that I liked.
This month I’ll talk about my trip to Kentucky, a ball game, and a few other things. This is The Best of August 2019.

The Old Kentucky Home
This month started with my favorite way, travel. We took a family road trip to Kentucky for my family reunion. My parents and sister drove up from Florida to Durham and we left the next day for Kentucky. The trip up was fun because my sister, Hilary, rode along with me and Derek. There was definitely a lot of giggling along the way!
I was so excited to have finally made it to Prestonsburg also known as “The Star of Eastern Kentucky”. It had been eighteen years since my last visit and my husband, Derek’s first visit.
I loved being able to share with him the things that I love about this small town. He finally got to see the family farm where my grandmother grew up. I’ve talked about it for years and it still looks the same!

The horses were quite funny. They wouldn’t cooperate with me when I tried to take their pictures. They were not happy that I neglected to bring them some apples!

We stayed with our cousin Johnny and it’s always a great time when you’re with Johnny! You can see the old farmhouse from his place. His garden is something else. Some of us city folk would call it a small farm!

The weekend was full of wonderful conversations and laughter, great food and some much

A Trip to the Coast
If you caught last week’s post then you’ll know I headed down to the coast a
Incredible Japanese Cuisine in Chapel Hill
Derek and I love Asian food. Lately, we’ve been enjoying a lot more Japanese cuisine thanks to the opening of Mr. Tokyo in Chapel Hill this past January. Our first visit was on Derek’s birthday a

It’s all-you-can-eat but not a buffet. You fill out what you want on the menus they provide. The food comes out in whatever order it’s ready. Derek enjoys the sushi and I always order the hibachi since I’m not a sushi fan. There are also soups, salads, and appetizers included in the menu. The crab rangoon and gyoza are particular favorites of ours.

Lunch is quite the deal at $12.99 per person. Dinner is $19.99 per person and is served every night starting at 3:30 pm and all day on the weekends. The dinner menu does offer more of a selection than the lunch. The food is always delicious and the

Mr. Tokyo is located off of Fordham Blvd right across the street from Trader Joe’s. Another reason why I love this place, I often find myself running over to TJ’s after lunch to grab any necessities I may need! I do think the secret is out on this place because our last two visits this month involved a wait. Of course, that should tell you how good it is! If you ever find yourself in the area, it’s definitely worth checking out!
A Bit of Childhood Nostalgia with Adult Perks
This past Sunday Derek and I finally made it over to the Boxcar Arcade in Durham. I don’t want to go into too much detail since I’ll be writing a full post on it next week. It’s an arcade with every game you can imagine with gourmet pizzas and a full-service bar! The best part? It’s 21 and up and minors are only allowed in with an adult before 9

So, as you can see, August was a pretty fulfilling month! I hope you enjoyed reading about The Best of August 2019. I’m anxiously waiting to see what September has in store for me and if I’ll be embracing any early fall fun!
