The Best of September 2019 is a brief recap of a quickly passing month.
Wow, I can’t believe we’re at the end of September already! This is going to be a short post because honestly, we didn’t do very much this month. Derek and I have both spent the month focusing on work. I’ve been focusing on filming as many recipe videos as possible in anticipation of the busy holiday season which will be here before we know it! Anyways, although there wasn’t too much going on, I’m happy to share with you, The Best of September 2019.

The Durham Bulls Go To the Playoffs
At the beginning of the month, the Durham Bulls earned themselves a wild card spot in the International League Playoffs. I was so excited when I found out that Derek was actually off the night of the first game. We just had to seize the opportunity and go!
Postseason at the DBAP is a little bit different than the regular season. They sell all-you-can-eat tickets for $17 a person which is a total deal! You get your choice of the normal ballpark staples like hot dogs, hamburgers, and nachos plus unlimited fountain drinks.
The ballpark also offers packages that allow you to buy tickets for the entire postseason plus upgraded food options like a BBQ package. Individual tickets are a better option for us since Derek’s schedule varies which includes evening shifts.

The Bulls played the Scranton Railriders, an affiliate of the New York Yankees. We had incredible seats right behind home plate. Both teams played a great game and in the end, the Bulls pulled out the win with a 9-3 victory! It was a fun and memorable evening.
The Bulls won the series and earned themselves a position in the race for the Governor’s Cup for the third year in a row. Unfortunately, the Columbus Clippers wanted the cup more this year and ended up winning the series and the cup. In the end, it was still a fantastic season and as always, we’re looking forward to what the next one brings.
Trying out GG Fish and Chicken
GG Fish and Chicken is a local seafood fast-casual spot. They recently opened a second location a
We ordered takeout. I got the fried jumbo shrimp, fries, coleslaw, and hushpuppies. Derek ordered the 3 item combo plate. He chose the fried oysters, flounder, and clam strips along with the same sides as me. I have to say for the most part we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The seafood was flavorful and cooked perfectly, the sides were great except for the hushpuppies. They tasted like they’d been sitting out for a while which was disappointing because I had a craving for hushpuppies.

I was quite impressed that the jumbo shrimp were actually jumbo. Some places will say jumbo but be more like a medium-large size. All in all, I would definitely recommend GG’s based on this visit. Yes, I was disappointed in the hushpuppies but that’s not a deal-breaker, not-so-good seafood would be but this was excellent seafood. I’m looking forward to trying the chicken some time.
We Made a Big Reservation
So, although we didn’t do much this month, we definitely made some plans for the near future. The hubs has a big birthday coming up in the New Year (the big 4-0!). We definitely want to celebrate it in a big way. We will be taking a week-long cruise in February! Derek and I cannot wait for this much-needed vacay!

New Seasons of Netflix Faves
Derek suggested I share with you some of my favorite Netflix shows since this month was a little short of fun activity. Two of them just released new seasons and I thought they would be the perfect ones to share.
The first is Derry Girls. It’s not uncommon to find me watching a show from Great Britain. I just love them. Usually, I watch murder mysteries but every now and then I find a comedy that cracks me up. Derry Girls is definitely one of those shows. Their second season was actually released last month. It’s just as hilarious as the first season if not more.
I absolutely love the 90s nostalgia, being a 90s teen myself. Combine that with the contrasting hilarity mixed with a serious subject of Northern Ireland’s past and delivered by a talented cast you get an enjoyable escape. The episodes are really short. In fact, you can binge-watch a season in a couple of hours. Just talking about it makes me want to watch both seasons again!
The other favorite show is The Chef Show. The second half of the first season was just released this month. I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet but I’m looking forward to it. I just love the premise of the show. It’s fun to watch some of my favorite celebrities pop up throughout the season to help Jon Favreau and Roy Choi throw together some incredible meals. Most of all I love that this show celebrates food and the process of preparing it. It’s truly a great example of how cooking is an art form that needs to be savored.
Well, that was The Best of September 2019. I’m looking forward to what October brings especially since it’s one of my favorite months! Hopefully, it’ll be filled with cool weather, fresh apples, mountain air, and brightly colored leaves!
