Start the New Year off right and swap your creamy honey mustard dressing for this Honey Dijon Vinaigrette! Your waistline and tastebuds will thank you!
As the holiday season is coming to an end I find myself a little glad. Don’t get me wrong, it’s my favorite time of year but one can only indulge for too long before you start feeling a little blah! Even Derek started proclaiming last week that it was time to get back to salads. He definitely didn’t get an argument from me when I had my two new bathing suits sitting in front of me. The fact that I’m going to have to wear them on next month’s cruise is definitely a motivating factor!
I don’t feel like we overindulged. It just takes a while to go through the yummy stuff when it’s only the two of you. Do you know what I mean?

I’m not a dieter. I gave up that ridiculousness over a decade ago. I just try to eat healthy every day and indulge every now and then. Am I always successful? Nope. Do I overindulge too much at times? Yep. But I also don’t yo-yo like I used to and I haven’t come near my heaviest since I stopped dieting.
One of the ways I stick to a healthy diet is by keeping track of my daily servings of fruits and veggies. Salads are a great way to get those daily servings but they can also mess you up if you’re not putting the right stuff in there.
Salad dressings are major culprits. I love the yummy creamy dressings like ranch, thousand island, and honey mustard but they will raise the caloric and fat content of your salads. That’s why I try to stick with vinaigrettes and save the creamy dressings for a special salad that I only eat every now and then.

As yummy as vinaigrettes are they can get a bit boring when you eat salads almost every day. A few months ago I had a hankering for honey mustard but I really wanted to stay away from the mayo-based dressing. I decided to make a vinaigrette version and it turned it out really well. Even my hubby got excited when I made him a salad with this Honey Dijon Vinaigrette.
The best part is that I use ingredients that are staples in my house. I start off with Dijon mustard and I love the sharp taste of it. I especially recommend Trader Joe’s Dijon. It’s the best I’ve had and it comes in at a great price! If you’re not a big fan of Dijon mustard, you can always cut the amount in half.
There’s also honey, sea salt, and extra virgin olive oil. I use apple cider vinegar as the acid. I recommend using raw, organic with the “mother”. It has so many wonderful health properties and it’s another high-quality, budget-friendly item that you can pick up at Trader Joe’s! (By the way, this is not a sponsored post. I do not receive any compensation from them. I just love their products and love sharing my opinion with you on some of their best!)
This Honey Dijon Vinaigrette is really a great way to bring new life to your salads and is a fabulous substitute for those moments you’re craving the creamy honey mustard! I hope you enjoy this dressing as much as we do!
